The Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) and Meadow Lake Tribal Council (MLTC) are gearing up to put on a virtual gathering.
This coming Saturday the tribal councils will be broadcasting from the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre in Prince Albert. The virtual event will feature a range of speakers and guests from athletes to comedians and musicians.
PAGC Vice Chief Joesph Tsannie explained they are putting on the event in part to provide some encouragement during the challenging times many in member communities are going through.
“We wanted to lift up their spirits and to kind of give them a boost, re energize our communities, encourage them to continue on, to continue with their efforts,” he said.
The gathering will be broadcast over Facebook starting at 4 p.m. In putting together the event, Tsannie said organizers wanted to offer people a range of entertainment and speakers to differentiate from what has been done previously.
“We wanted to be a variety; we wanted to have speakers, motivational speakers, that can speak and help boost our communities, the spirits in our communities,” he said.
The speakers include Lieutenant Governor Russ Mirasty, and Ethan Bear of the Edmonton Oilers. Representatives from the Northern Inter Tribal Health Authority and Saskatchewan Health Authority are also set to speak.
The vice chief said the pandemic has been hard for many communities as they have not been able to get together to have community gatherings and other events like they normally would. He added the virtual gathering also aims to recognize people who have been working to keep communities safe during the pandemic.
“To also acknowledge our frontline workers, to lift them up and to say thank you for all the work they have put in,” he said.
