The Prince Albert Police have released the name of the person whose body was found in a home after an explosion and fire this past weekend.
In a media release sent out late Tuesday, police said with help from the Office of the Chief Coroner they were able to identify 29-year-old Jeremy Starblanket, of Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation.
The investigation started last Saturday when emergency services were called to a home on the 500 block of Fifth Street E. The P.A. Fire department said when they arrived on scene the house was fully engulfed in flames and it was found an explosion had taken the home off of its foundation. The explosion and fire forced the evacuation of nearby homes and residents who were not allowed allowed to return until later in the evening. The fire department said a pipe leaking natural gas was allowed to burn for a few hours until SaskEnergy could come and shut off the gas.
Police said Starblanket’s death has been deemed a homicide and is being investigating as such.
Police are asking anyone with information or surveillance footage from Saturday to contact them or to call Crime Stoppers.
