A northern literacy hub is being established in La Ronge for children in the area six-years-old and younger.
The La Ronge and Area Family Literacy Hub is designed to give caregivers resources and spaces designed to facilitate their child’s early literacy development.
The Hub will be located in the in the nisto ihtāwina Early Years Family Resource Centre and is set to open in July.
In a press release, Education Minister Dustin Duncan said, “Literacy is so important for children’s learning and development, and parents really are their child’s first teacher.”
The La Ronge literacy hub will use books that reflect the language, culture and environment in the North.
Families will also be able to gather around a traditional drum and play it while storytelling.
This northern Hub is the government’s response to an “identified need in Northern Saskatchewan”, according the press release.
The La Ronge Hub is one of nine provincially funded programs.
