The Prince Albert Grand Council has announced plans to build a new shelter for Indigenous women and girls fleeing domestic violence and abuse.
The 10-room facility will have a total of 25 beds.
It will provide culture-based healing and support services.
PAGC will use $4.4 million from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation’s Shelter Enhancement Program to build the facility.
Another $4.3 million over 5 years from Indigenous Services Canada will be used to fund operational costs.
The building will be overseen by PAGC’s Women’s Commission.
Construction is expected to begin next spring with completion in the spring of 2023.
