The province officially announced the opening of two new passing lanes on Highway 2 between Prince
Albert and Christopher Lake Thursday morning.
The $7.5 million investment is the first passing lanes project as part of the government’s $2.4 billion stimulus program.
The province says the new passing lanes will improve traffic flow for commuters going to and from communities and parks in the Prince Albert area and Saskatchewan’s north.
Studies show passing lanes can reduce collisions by as much as 25 per cent.
The government says the first major passing lanes pilot project on Highway 10 has resulted in 75 per cent fewer fatal accidents in the five years since it was completed.
