A new Indigenous speakers series is coming to the Royal Saskatchewan Museum beginning later this month.
The museum is partnering with SGI to present a 4-part speaker series from Indigenous presenters called Solstice.
“Supporting the Solstice Speaker Series is an important part of SGI’s commitment to the Indigenous community in Saskatchewan,” SGI President and CEO Andrew Cartmell said.
The first part of the series will be on September 29th and will look to commemorate residential school survivors and their families. The event will be a part of the Orange Shirt Day activities happening at the museum.
The first of the Solstice Speaker Series will see the screening of the film We Were Children, which recounts the experience of two residential school survivors; Lyna Hart and Glen Anaquod. Relatives of Glen Anaquad will be on hand to speak about their experiences.
“This Indigenous-focused series will be a yearlong conversation designed to reflect the emotion, introspection, and change that happens each season,” said Craig Perrault, Executive Director of Friends of the Royal Saskatchewan Museum. “Our hope is to create active listening and participation with the audience through Indigenous leaders sharing their stories and teachings as part of our steps toward Truth & Reconciliation.”
The speaker series will run throughout the year at the Royal Saskatchewan Museum.
