This Sunday will mark the one-year anniversary of a woman’s disappearance in Saskatoon.

A walk is planned in her honour.

Megan Gallagher was last seen by family and friends On Sept 19, 2020. Soon afterward Saskatoon police began investigating her disappearance as a homicide. However, no one has been charged and details around Megan’s disappearance remain scarce.

Megan’s father Brian Gallagher is planning Megan’s Walk in part to raise awareness around Megan’s story, but to also bring awareness to the issue of Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls and Two-Spirit people as a whole.

“It’s a big event for us and we are hoping to get as many people out as possible,” said Gallagher. “People have asked us how we are doing and it depends on the moment, it depends on the day, it depends on the hour.”

Gallagher says his daughter was well-loved by those around her.

“She is just a very social person, very loving, very kind,” he said. “She was also so great with children and we always joked that she was like the Pied Piper because when she came into the room all the children would gather toward her…just an amazing soul.”

What makes Megan’s disappearance especially hard for Brian is that very little is known about what actually happened.

That’s why the theme for Megan’s walk is “silence is killing us”.

“It’s a community issue,” said Gallagher. “There are people out there that have information that can ease so much pain for so many families. It’s like this invisible monster out there and as long as people keep silent and keep things to themselves nothing will change and things will probably get worse.”

Megan’s Walk will begin Sunday morning at the Joe Gallagher ball diamond (named after Megan’s grandfather) and will travel through the city.

The walk will also help kickoff missing persons week in Saskatchewan.

Anyone with any information on the disappearance of Megan Gallagher is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
