The Athabasca Health Authority along with the band and council of Black Lake First Nation is warning the public about what they say are false reports shared on a Facebook video.

The health authority posted a notice to their Facebook page on Monday that they received information about a “dire situation” in the northern community.

The health authority indicated an individual had falsely claimed to have been run out of the Black Lake because they refused the Covid-19 vaccine.

The false reports stem from statements made on a Facebook video posted late Sunday night.

Black Lake First Nation band and council is also joining in and refuting the claims made in the video.

“These statements are not true,” read a statement by the band and council, shared by the FSIN. “The video is not representative of the vaccination efforts in Black Lake First Nation, Saskatchewan.  At this time, we would like to request concerned citizens to refrain from contacting the band in regards to this video. It is exhausting our resources. We thank and appreciate all concerned citizens for the well-being of our community.”

As of Monday afternoon, the video in question has been shared over 13 thousand times.

In light of this, the Athabasca Health Authority is reminding the public that all Covid-19 vaccinations are taken voluntarily and that they have seen a steady uptake of the Covid-19 vaccination every day.

The AHA says as of October 15, there are no active Covid-19 cases in the community.

The post by the health authority went on to say the community is ”calm with no reported concerns” and “everyone is doing fine to the best of our knowledge.”
