Provincial parks in Saskatchewan have seen record visitors this year.
According to the provincial government over one million people visited the province’s parks in 2021 breaking the record set the year prior.
“With residents staying close to home this past year, we’ve seen a number of new visitors exploring our parks in addition to many returning visitors,” Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Laura Ross said in a media release. “We are pleased that more people are taking advantage of the recreational opportunities we have right here in our own province, and discovering all that our beautiful parks have to offer.”
While peak camping season is over park officials are still expected the record break numbers to rise even further as many parks still offer winter camping.
Before 2020, the record year for Saskatchewan provincial parks was in 2016. This year’s number has surpassed the 2016 number by over 400,000 visitors.
