A family in the Prince Albert area is picking up the pieces after a fire destroyed their mobile home Wednesday.

Firefighters were called to the Eastview Trailer Court in the RM of Prince Albert in the afternoon but were not able to save any of the structure.

Veronica Black said because of the fire her brother John Aubichon, his longtime partner and dog Niko are now without a place to live.

“He doesn’t even have socks, everything burnt up,” she said.

Black explained along with losing everything with the holidays around the corner, her brother’s longtime partner is set to have surgery on her back in the coming weeks, which is adding another layer of stress to the situation.

“They’re like, ‘Oh my god, how she going to recover, where’s she going to recover?’,” she said.

To help her brother out Black said a Go Fund Me has been set up and organized by his daughter with the goal of raising $50,000.

Black said her brother was without insurance at the time of the fire and added because he owned the trailer he will be required to clean up the site. Currently the two are being put up in a hotel for three days with the help of the Red Cross.

Normally Black said her brother goes out of his way to try and help others who might be in need. In past winters he has gone out in his truck to pull out people who have been stuck in their cars due to the weather.

“He is the kind of guy who does try to help other people and now he needs help,” she said.
