Northlands College has appointed five members to their newly established Elder’s Advisory Council.
The council is to give the school guidance and knowledge on topics including language and culture.
Beauval’s Ann Lafleur, Thompson McKenzie of Grandmother’s Bay, Montreal Lake’s Henry Charles, Black Lake’s Freddie Throassie and William Morin of Pelican Narrows are the first to be appointed to the council.
In a statement, president and CEO Guy Penney says ”I am very pleased to see this initiative come to fruition and excited to gain the knowledge and individual perspective that each Elder will bring. This information will help us make the best possible decisions around policies, procedures and programming that meets the needs of students in northern Saskatchewan.”
The College says they received a lot of interest from northern Saskatchewan residents to join the Elder’s council.
