The Saskatoon Tribal Council’s Emergency Wellness Centre will stay open for at least another year.
City Council unanimously extended the centre’s lease for another 12 months at a council meeting on Wednesday.
The Wellness Centre originally opened in downtown Saskatoon this past December to help the city’s homeless population find a warm place to stay.
According to the STC the 75 bed facility has been consistently full since then.
Meanwhile, the Saskatoon Tribal Council continues to look for a permanent location for the wellness centre.
The tribal council was recently in talks about a building on 20 Street West, but no updates yet on the state of those discussions.
Tribal Chief Mark Arcand has made it known he wants the holistic approach of the STC Wellness Centre to be the main provider of homeless shelters in the city.
