Six people are swimming 163 kilometers of Lake Diefenbaker tomorrow to help raise funds for women’s shelters in the province.
The swimmers will take turns covering the Lake, looking to raise $10,000 for the Piwapan Women’s Centre in La Ronge and the YWCA in Regina.
Shuana Nagy, a Program Manager at the Women’s Centre said the funds raised will be used to support programs for women, youth and housing.
“We have several programs at the shelter, we have the actual women’s shelter. And then we also have youth programs and second stage housing programs. We have sexual assault program, healthy relationships, programs. And a lot of times, in all of those programs, there’s issues with clients who they don’t have identification, so they can’t get any services,” she explained.
The swimmers are expected to begin early Tuesday morning, anticipating to finish approximately three-days later. Donations can be accepted on the Diefenbaker Dip Facebook page.
