The Metis Nation-Saskatchewan is expanding its early learning language programs to include all regions in the province.
The MN-S announced on Tuesday they partnered with the six Saskatchewan school divisions on the language program.
This means that Michif and Dene language programs will now be available to all 12 MN-S regions.
Cree will be offered in the northern Region through the Northern Lights School Division.
“Our Métis Nation-Saskatchewan government partnered with the Saskatchewan School Boards Association (SSBA) in 2018 and has been working in tandem along with elders to integrate distinctions based Métis cultural content and perspectives in the classroom,” said MN–S President Glen McCallum in a media release on the expansion. “The language programs are a result of that cooperation. To be able to nurture cultural revitalization through our children to their family unit is extremely gratifying.”
The Metis Nation expects the expansion, which started this fall, to reach more then 600 students across the province.
