A Coroner’s Inquest looking in to the death of a 28-year-old man in August of 2020 is set to go next month in Prince Albert.

Cain Wapass was found unresponsive in a cell at the RCMP detachment on Ahtahkakoop Cree Nation on August 26 of 2020. Emergency medical services were call and Wapass was pronounced dead.

The inquest is set to run from April 17 to 21 at the Coronet Hotel.

A Coroner’s Inquest aims to establish the facts of what happened in regards to a death which occurs in custody. This includes who died and under what circumstances. At the end of the inquest the Coroner’s Jury may put forward recommendations which aim to prevent similar deaths in the future.
