The woman charged in relation to the fire which destroyed the Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre last year had her case adjourned Wednesday afternoon.
Gina Beatty was not present when her matter was spoken to in Prince Albert Provincial Court. Her lawyer Gordon Kirkby appeared by phone on her behalf and asked the court to adjourn the matter to this coming Friday, to which the court agreed.
When questioned by the court about what he expects to happen at the Friday appearance, Kirkby said he expects Beatty to formally enter a plea and for the Crown and defense to present a joint submission asking for a sentencing circle.
Beatty was charged by Prince Albert Police with arson not long after the fire. She is currently in custody.
The Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation (PBCN) and Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) recently announced they were seeking public feedback from PAGC membership about what they would like to see in a rebuilt Senator Allen Bird Memorial Centre building. The First Nation and Tribal Council are also in the process of seeking funding to help pay for construction of a new building.
