Several people in Pelican Narrows are facing drugs and weapons charges, following an RCMP safety blitz in that community last week. In all, eight people were arrested between Dec. 15 to 19.

Braden Michel was arrested Saturday after a search warrant on a home seized several knives and machetes, bear mace, drug trafficking paraphernalia, and a small amount of methamphetamine. He is charged with two counts of possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. Michel will appear in court in February.

The next day, officers located approximately 53 small bags of methamphetamine, trafficking paraphernalia, a sawed-off shotgun, an airsoft gun and ammunition during a search warrant execution at a residence on McKay Road. Solomon Thomas,  April Custer, Newton Ballantyne and a girl were arrested and charged with one count of possession for the purpose of trafficking and five firearms-related charges. The accused appeared in court on Dec. 19.

“Over five days, officers arrested eight wanted individuals, and took cocaine and methamphetamine packaged for sale, firearms and other weapons off the streets,” said Sgt. Ryan Davies from La Ronge Crime Reduction Team. 

On Monday, Mounties raided a home on Pine Drive. Authorities seized 2.5 grams of cocaine and a gram of methamphetamine both divided up into small packages, an air rifle, a shotgun, two sawed-off shotguns, a rifle, ammunition and trafficking paraphernalia. Colton Bighetty, Ovide Michel of Pelican Narrows and Brett Michel from The Pas, MB are each charged with two counts of possession for the purpose of trafficking, one count of possession of the proceeds of crime, as well as firearms-related charges. They appeared in court on Tuesday.
