Later this month an Indigenous business out of Saskatoon will be featured on CBC’s Dragon’s Den.

Rachel Smith will be pitching her business Bannock Express to the investors.

In a conversation with MBC Radio News, Smith explained how Bannock Express was founded as a catering company, how it grew into a restaurant, and how they have recently branched out into making bannock mix as well.

Smith says she has applied for Dragon’s Den 5 years in a row, but a lull in her schedule last year gave her an opportunity to really work on her pitch.

“My first interview was only ten minutes, but this time it was over 30,” she told MBC Radio News. “From the producer would check in and in May he called me and told I was going to be on the show, so I flew out to Toronto and we shot the pitch.”

While Smith couldn’t provide details on the show, she encouraged everyone to tune in.

“I’m sworn under strict secrecy so I can’t say too much, but I could just let people know the pitch certainly had me on my toes,” she said while laughing. “There is lots of twist and turns in there and it will be a great pitch to watch.”

The episode of Dragon’s Den featuring Rachel Smith and Bannock Express will air on January 25 at 8:00pm Saskatchewan time.
