In the wake of a deadly house fire in the Lac La Ronge community of Little Red River, Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says more is being done to secure fire protection services.

That fatal fire on February 27, claimed the life of Victor Charles.

Cook-Searson adds that a fire trick is on order for the community of Little Red River and that construction of a new fire hall will commence this spring, once a contractor has been selected.

On Friday, the First Nation met with Indigenous and provincial agencies to establish temporary fire response services.

It appears the services from the Montreal Lake Cree Nation and the La Ronge Regional Fire Department will be on standby until Thursday.
