Saskatchewan’s Ombudsman’s office says they are launching an investigation into the Pine Grove Correctional Centre in Prince Albert.
The office didn’t say what instigated the investigation only saying concerns have been brought forward to their office.
“We are aware of significant concerns through complaints made to our office, and decided it is in the public interest to investigate,” said Ombudsman Sharon Pratchler, in a media release announcing the investigation.
Saskatchewan’s ombudsman is now asking anyone who may have had an adverse experience at the facility to contact them to be a part of the investigation.
Anyone from the public wishing to participate in the investigation is asked to get in contact with the ombudsman’s office. The office says members of the office are willing to travel to communities, including northern communities, to make it easier for individuals to provide their perspective.
The office says they especially want to investigate trauma-informed practices and Truth and Reconciliation principles incorporated into the facility. Contact information can be found here.
They say a public report will be released when the investigation is complete.
They also say the investigation timeline will depend on how many people come forward and the kinds of issues they raise.
