Update: Saskatoon RCMP have determined the devices in the mailbox are modified fireworks.

RCMP stated that additional damaged mailboxes have now been located. All involved mailboxes are east of Saskatoon in the RM of Blucher, and RM of Corman Park.

The fireworks will not detonate, and are not a threat, unless they are lit.

On Sunday, Saskatoon RCMP received a report that several mailboxes near Sunset Estates in the RM of Blucher were broken into, and suspicious objects were left in them.

Police said one of the mailboxes had been damaged by an explosive device.

At roughly 9:50 a.m. this morning, Mounties received a separate report of an explosive device placed in a mailbox in the RM of Corman Park.

RCMP stated that seven explosive devices were placed in mailboxes in the area with six of them detonating, damaging the mailboxes.

No injuries have been reported and Saskatchewan RCMP’s Explosive Disposal Unit is assisting with the ongoing investigation.

Officers ask that residents not handle any suspicious or unknown devices found in mailboxes. If one is found, or if you have information about these incidents, contact Saskatoon RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
