Residents of Sandy Bay can start returning to their homes, nearly one month after being evacuated due to a wildfire.
Officials from Peter Ballantyne Cree Nation posted a notice Monday night that the evacuation order for the community ended Tuesday morning at 8am.
Officials saythe Flanagan Fire, which caused the evacuation order has been contained, with no growth over the past 72 hours. Crews continue to address minor hotspots to ensure the fire remains low risk.
In the meantime, power, water and sewer systems are fully functional with officials saying RCMP, health services, grocery stores and gas stations are also operational.
Buses will begin returning evacuees starting around 9am this morning.
Care packages and essential supplies will be distributed to returning residents.
Sandy Bay was evacuated because of the fire on August 13th.
