The past year for the Saskatoon Tribal Council was marked again by a continued push for governments to help support those experiencing homelessness.

Over the past few years, the STC has put their money with their mouth is by actively engaging in supporting the city’s homeless population through the operation of the Emergency Wellness Centre.

Saskatoon, however, has seen a significant rise in homelessness in the past two years and shelters like the STC’s have been bursting at the seams.

Tribal Chief Mark Arcand spoke with MBC News reflecting on the past year and looking ahead to 2025.

He says homelessness will continue to be a key issue for the STC.

Arcand also says the tribal council wants to continue to address the high incarceration rates of First Nations people and to help in the areas of mental health and addictions.
