Saskatchewan’s police watchdog is investigating after a 49-year-old man from White Bear First Nation died in a police cell.

The Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team says the man was arrested after another man and woman were found injured in a home in the early hours of Friday morning on the First Nation.

Investigators say the man was taken to the Carlyle RCMP detachment and placed in a cell.

Police say at around 9 a-m, an officer observed that the man was in medical distress and he was later pronounced dead by E-M-S.

SIRT will now investigate the mans death with a report to be released to the public within 90 days of the investigation ending.
