Athabasca MLA and NDP Shadow Minister for First Nations and Métis Relations Leroy Laliberte and Saskatoon Westview MLA and NDP shadow minister for housing April ChiefCalf visited Prince Albert this week.

They made the trip to attend some meetings with the local foodbank, Métis Nation Saskatchewan western region 2, and attend a homelessness meeting. Laliberte and ChiefCalf also wanted to introduce themselves to local leaders and community members.

While in Prince Albert, they stopped by the MBC Radio studio to have a conversation about homelessness, mental health and addictions in the province.

“We’re lacking many services when it comes to housing, we’re lacking social programming, we’re lacking money when it comes to addictions and mental health,” stated Laliberte.

“Due to affordability issues, lack of housing, changes to the Saskatchewan income support program, there are a record number of people unhoused right now, and it’s a crisis and we need to be looking at short-tern solutions which are the warming centres and shelters,” explained ChiefCalf.
