On January 11, 2025 at approximately 9:20 p.m., Prince Albert RCMP received a request for assistance from Correctional Service Canada (CSC) in relation to a drug trafficking investigation at the Saskatchewan Penitentiary outside of Prince Albert.

Prince Albert RCMP responded and after an investigation, CSC employees had located a suspicious vehicle in the parking lot with three occupants inside.

During subsequent investigation, officers located and seized approximately 70 grams of methamphetamine, approximately 42 grams of cocaine, 38 pharmaceutical style pills, and drug trafficking paraphernalia inside the vehicle.

A homemade slingshot that was used for launching drugs over the fence of the penitentiary was also located and seized by police.

Two adult males and an adult female were arrested at the scene.

23-year-old Jacquelyn Charles from Prince Albert, 25-year-old Keenen Grimard from Prince Albert, and 50-year-old Mervin Vermette from Shellbrook are each charged with:

  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine
  • one count, possession for the purpose of trafficking – suboxone

Mervin Vermette appeared in Prince Albert Provincial Court on January 13, 2025 (Information #90514711). Jacquelyn Charles and Keenen Grimard are scheduled to appear in Prince Albert Provincial Court on March 3, 2025.
