The nomination period has now closed for the Muskoday First Nations (MFN) general election.
The election will see band members vote on five councillor positions and one chief position.
According to an announcement made by the electoral officer, a total of 24 individuals are vying for a council position, with 10 people looking to become the nation’s next chief.
Current Chief Ronald M. Bear is looking to enter his second term as chief, and current councillors Beryl Bear, Ted Bear, and Elaine V. Smith-Ross are looking to step up into the chief position.
MFN allows candidates to run for both chief and council, and Beryl Bear and Ted Bear are also looking to be re-elected as councillors. Current councillor Merle Crain is also seeking another term in the position.
The election will take place on March 25 at the Muskoday Community Hall between 9a.m. and 8p.m. Members can also vote by mail-in ballots.
The newly elected chief and council will serve a two-year term.
