A mining exploration company has entered into an agreement with several far north communities for exploration in the Athabasca region.

Greenbridge Exploration has signed an exploration agreement with Ya’thi Néné Lands and Resource.

The lands and resources firm represents Hatchet Lake, Black Lake, and Fond du Lac Dene Nations as while as several other far north communities.

The agreement strengthens the collaboration between the two companies to ensure any exploration activities respect traditional lands.

A spokesperson for Ya’thi Néné Lands and Resources says it is about more than exploration.

“It’s about respect for our land, our people, and our way of life. It ensures that development happens with our voices at the table and our values at the forefront,” said Mary Denechezhe, Board Chair of Ya’thi Néné Lands and Resources. “By working together, we are creating opportunities that support our communities while protecting what matters most to us.”

According to a media release on the matter, the agreement establishes a framework for responsible exploration that prioritizes cultural preservation, environmental protection, and meaningful community engagement.

It is also supposed to foster economic opportunities by supporting local employment, training, and business development.
