The Conference Board of Canada says Northern Saskatchewan is leading the way when it comes to single-parent families in the country.
A new study by the board found that Northern Saskatchewan had the highest percentage of lone-parent families at 37.5 per cent.
Two regions from Northern Manitoba were second and third at 34 per cent and just over 30 per cent.
A region of Nunavut and the North west Territories were fourth and fifth respectively, both of them were under 30 percent.
Conference board vice-president Gilles Rheaume says the prevalence of lone-parent families in the North leads to greater social needs from their communities.
It also can lead to lower incomes.
