FNs Must Cash In on Oil Boom: Leader

A northern leader says First Nations need to brainstorm ways of cashing in on the booming oil and mineral sector.

Eric Morris is Yukon’s regional chief for the Assembly of First Nations.

Speaking from Niagra Falls, the site of a major mineral summit this week, he says a dialogue needs to be started on a way forward.

He says the AFN needs to know how it can assist bands who are faced with development opportunities on their traditional territories, but aren’t sure how to begin.

Morris says he’d like to see some type of framework created that could help individual bands deal with those challenges.
