High Flow at Cumberland to be Spread Over Few Days

Steps are being taken to disperse the amount of water headed for Cumberland House.

The Saskatchewan Watershed Authority says it is holding back some water at Tobin Lake.

The original timeline for the water flow called for peak levels to be realized around Wednesday.

However, under this new approach policy director Dale HJertass explains the peak is expected to happen sometime over the next few days and last until Friday.

He says this essentially creates a high flow for 5 days instead of a very high flow for 1 or 2 days.

Meanwhile, a long-time trapper in the Cumberland House region is bracing for the worst this week.

John Carriere says high-water levels are already taking their toll on the area.

Carriere says many animals have already moved out of the region due to the surging waters, and says that is bound to affect trappers.

Carriere says over half a dozen cabins have been flooded by the water so far.

Saskatchewan Highways says highway 123 is currently open to all traffic, and that includes trucks over one tonne.
