Problems facing woodland caribou have caught the attention of a national group aimed at preserving endangered species.

Saskatoon was the setting recently for a meeting of the National Aboriginal Council on Species at Risk.

The group is trying to develop strategies to work closer with the government on helping endangered species.

Eric Morris is a spokesman for the council as well as a regional chief with the AFN.

He says they recently met with trappers from Saskatchewan to hear what’s happening out on the land and what they can do to help.

He adds the group is also trying to raise awareness about the role aboriginal knowledge can play in maintaining the wilderness.
