Back to Batoche is in the books for another year.

Organizers of the yearly festival say it’s too early at this point to say what the attendance was.

On Friday however 823 people were on hand for an attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest number of people playing wooden spoons at the same time.

The attempt fell short, partially due to weather,  but organizers say they’ll keep trying.

On Saturday several veterans were also honored during a ceremony at the Batoche historical site.

During that time the Federal government also announced it would put fifty thousand dollars towards a Metis war veterans memorial monument.

Ottawa will provide the Gabriel Dumont Institute with the funding.

The money will go towards the construction of eight granite slabs – etched with the names of thirty-six hundred Metis veterans.

The memorial will have carvings of images that are significant to the Metis.
