Montreal Lake Receives Visit From Premier

An official with the Montreal Lake Cree Nation says Premier Brad Wall has promised to send experts to the community to help prevent future floods there.

Dirk McDonald looks after roads and bridges for the band.

He says Wall made that promise during his tour of the reserve.

“Yeah he’s going to make sure he sends his guys down here and see the impact that’s been caused and stuff like that.  He’s just filling us in and we’re going to get a proper assessment over all.  He’s going to send his specialized people down. ”

Meantime McDonald says the band won’t likely move homes in low lying areas to higher ground.

Dozens of people were evacuated from there and from Timber Bay last Thursday when a creek flooded.

The evacuees have since returned.
