La Ronge Leaders Stay Watchful For Flooding

Officials in the La Ronge area continue to monitor the high water situation in the region.

 

The levels of rivers and lakes in the area are at near record levels and a number of roads have been washed out.

 

The Lac La Ronge Indian Band and the Village of Air Ronge have both declared local states of emergency.

 

Chief Tammy Cook-Searson says one main area of concern continues to be the bridge over the Montreal River.

 

Cook-Searson says a number of homes in the region have flooded basements and crawl spaces.

 

She says a special office will be set up in La Ronge where people can fill out forms for flood damage compensation.

 

And work has also been done in an area close to the river which is under constant supervision.

 

The Chief says Saskatchewan Highways crews are also working to ensure roads in the area remain passable.

 

Routes being watched include the road to Stanley Mission and Highway102.
