Carrier Forest Products is said to have its eye on a timber allocation in Northwest Saskatchewan.
The company announced last week it plans to re-establish a sawmill and planer-mill near Big River.
Bob Ruggles, an Associate Deputy Minister with the Ministry of Resources, says the company is attempting to boost the amount of lumber available to the operation.
He explains the company will inherit part of the Prince Albert Forest Management Agreement with the purchase, but they want more.
He adds discussions are still ongoing.
