A class action suit was launched yesterday on behalf of Aboriginal children in Saskatchewan who were removed from their families and adopted far from their relatives and culture.
The Lost Girls/Boys Scoop Class Action is being litigated by the Merchant Law Group.
Lawyer Tony Merchant says the government program of the 1960’s, called Adopt Indian Metis Children, was to assimilate Aboriginal children into white culture.
Merchant says children often grew up knowing they were different.
Merchant says 57 people have signed up so far.
