Whitefish Leaving FSIN To Pursue Band Leadership

Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations’ Fourth Vice-Chief Lyle Whitefish says he will not seek a third term in the position.

Whitefish says he has decided to move back to his home reserve of the Big River First Nation to run in the next chief election.

He says many band residents, including elders and young people, have asked him to seek the band’s leadership.

Whitefish was first elected as an FSIN vice-chief in 2006 in a by-election.

During his time in office, Whitefish was responsible for files such as residential schools, health, education, social development, and lands and resources.

The FSIN will be holding elections for Second and Fourth Vice-Chief in early October.
