The Premier is weighing in on the FSIN agreeing to a severance package with former Chief Guy Lonechild.

Premier Brad Wall says that the government partnership with the organization is valued, and funding is given to initiatives that close the education gap between Aboriginal people and non-Natives.

But Wall says he wants to also make sure taxpayers’ money is not being used in the Lonechild payout.

He says the province will be seeking assurances to that effect from Interim FSIN Chief Morley Watson.

Wall notes the government contributes just over $1 million dollars to the federation for various programs.

Lonechild accepted a severance package from the FSIN when he stepped down as chief yesterday.
