An outreach worker in Prince Albert says she feels the impact of HIV/AIDS on the Aboriginal community needs to be discussed more openly.
Donna Lerat spoke at a conference studying the issue yesterday in Prince Albert.
She says there are still too many barriers that keep patients or family members from dealing with the disease effectively.
Lerat says she recently addressed another aboriginal group about how men are often overlooked by their families when it comes time to talk and deal with the condition.
She adds there is also so many factors surrounding HIV/AIDS — things such as housing, childcare and suicide — that no one wants to bother dealing with the actual disease.
