Favorable winds have slowed down a fire burning 30 to 40 kilometres away from Southend.

Mike Daley of the Forest Fire Control Centre says much of the smoke that was drifting from the blaze has died down and isn’t impacting communities.

Over the weekend, the smoke made a noticeable impact in Manitoba and could reportedly be seen in Winnipeg.

Daley says the blaze is approximately 10,000 to 20,000 hectares in size and is burning near Lavender Lake.
