Some well-known Saskatonians are participating in an awareness event called the “food basket challenge.”
Participants are given a food basket similar to what someone would receive in a hamper from the food bank, and they have to eat that for the week.
Filmmaker Marcel Petit decided to do the challenge to make people really think about food banks and the kinds of food people are getting in them.
Petit notes it may be easier for him than others because he doesn’t eat meat, which works out, since there wasn’t much meat or proteins in the basket.
Participants also receive five pantry items as well as $5 to buy any other items, which Petit used to buy half a dozen eggs and peanut butter.
