Province, Industry Fund Lake Monitoring

The province is contributing $1 million into a monitoring program for northern Saskatchewan lakes.

 

Another $600,000 will be provided by Areva and Cameco.

 

Other groups involved in the project are Environment Canada, the Saskatchewan Watershed Authority, Queen’s University, University of Alberta as well as the Universities of Regina and Saskatchewan.

 

Studies will include First Nations and Metis Traditional Knowledge, clean water, air and land management and biodiversity.

 

Relevant data being collected and reviewed along with historical trends dating from the 1970’s.

 

Consultation and information-sharing will also be undertaken with northern and First Nation and Metis communities.
