Group Hopes Diabetes Becomes An Election Issue

The Canadian Diabetes Association is launching a new campaign for candidates and the public to consider during this fall’s provincial election.

Warren Wagner is the Saskatchewan regional director and says the province only has one pediatric endocrinologist located in Saskatoon.

Wagner says First Nations children are developing insulin dependent diabetes as young as 10 years of age.

Wagner says the diabetes association would like the support of government to hire another pediatric endocrinologist by June of next year for the Regina Qu’Appelle Health Region.

He says they have set up a website for the public to encourage support of this new initiative.
