Officials with the RCMP are responding to incidents that endangered officers in the communities of La Loche and the Red Earth First Nation this past week.
Assistant Commissioner Russ Mirasty says the recent violent incidents in those communities are isolated, and not an indication that the community as a whole does not want them there.
Mirasty says the relationship with a community is only part of how manpower at a detachment is determined.
The chief of the Red Earth First Nation says he wants to make sure that all people on his reserve feel safe.
McKay says he plans to hold a community meeting in the coming days to plot a way forward.
He hopes the meeting helps residents feel safe on the reserve.
McKay says he believes the shooting is a symptom of a much larger issue but wouldn’t go into specifics, as the matter is before the courts.
