The process of delivering new emergency communications equipment to First Nations in Saskatchewan continues.

Aboriginal Affairs is paying for the project, which is part of the Provincial Public Safety Telecommunications Network.

With the new system, on-reserve fire departments can communicate directly with police, ambulance and other emergency personnel.

Richard Kent from Prince Albert Grand Council Emergency and Protective Services says the system was put to use in August when a mushroom picker from Deschambault Lake went missing.

Kent says about half of the First Nations in the province now have the new emergency radio systems.
