It’s time for First Nations people to set up their own political party, according to Onion Lake Chief Wallace Fox.

Fox says research shows if Aboriginal people voted for that party they would win at least 11 seats — and those seats would cover half the province, the part with the most resources.

He says, as a result, that party could hold the balance of power after the next election — just like the federal NDP did in recent years.

Fox was asked if he is going to help set up that party. He said today’s announcement is the first step in that process.

The chief adds all Aboriginal people who can should vote in the November 7th provincial election.

He says that’s the best way for First Nations to get their issues dealt with.

Fox says in order to improve their lives, Aboriginal people have to become part of the system.
