A family court judge in Saskatchewan has ordered the Ministry of Social Services to reunite a Prince Albert woman with her two young children.
The woman at the centre of the case can only be identified as “A.H.”.
In a written decision – Judge Geoffrey Dufour says A.H. should have the ability to parent the two kids who were seized from her years ago.
The three year-old and five year-old are currently in foster care, but the ministry is looking at having them adopted out.
According to the judge, A.H. has made remarkable strides in escaping a life on the streets.
And he is upset that previously-scheduled visits between the mother and her children, which he himself had ordered, were not carried out by the ministry.
Dufour writes if the ministry does not heed his order, he may consider bringing in the Attorney General.
The judge is also ordering the mother to continue on with her methadone treatment program and to maintain regular contact with a family support worker.
