The chief of the Onion Lake Cree Nation says he has been getting inquiries about his idea of setting up a new political party in Saskatchewan.

During the recent provincial election campaign, Wallace Fox stated it would be a way to advance First Nations issues.

Fox says he doesn’t have time to lead the party, but he hopes others will step forward to help with its organization.

He says recent NDP statements on resource revenue sharing for First Nations are a good example of the need for a new independent political party.

Earlier this week, the NDP’s finance critic indicated the party was abandoning the idea because it doesn’t resonate with Saskatchewan voters — before backtracking yesterday and saying resource revenue sharing for First Nations is still NDP policy.
