A member of the Beardy’s and Okemasis First Nation is being acclaimed to the executive wing of the Liberal Party.

Kevin Seesequasis will officially be sworn in as vice-president of communications for the party’s aboriginal people’s commission this weekend.

The Liberal party is holding its annual convention in Ottawa.

Party members will be discussing ways of recapturing past glory and where the party needs to go from here.

Seesequasis says reclaiming aboriginal support is a key part of that process:

“Rebuilding the party is something that’s central to one of the goals we want to achieve and engaging aboriginal people back into the Liberal tent.”

He adds at point the Aboriginal People’s commission had 18 thousand members across the country.

He hopes those numbers can be restored.
